The cooler waters offshore move the larger grouper to the nearshore reefs of the Tampa - Saint Petersburg area. Pulling a mature grouper out of its hole requires patience and heavy tackle. Smaller pinfish and cut baits are the best choice this time of the year offshore. Inshore the sheepshead move in mass to the reefs and bridges of Tampa Bay. A dime size shrimp or crab offered close to the bottom provides steady action.

The weather this time of year is generally cool with clear skys and lots of sunshine. Winds vary from day to day but are reasonable most days. Bring a light jacket for the early hours of the day ar an occasional cloud.
